Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Common Questions

When are the South West hub events?

The 2026 scheme ran 13 farm plastic recycling hub events across Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Bristol in April and May. See the Southwest Recycling page for dates and locations.

Pay on the day: card machine payment (preferred), or cheque. There are no membership fees – you pay only for the plastic you bring.

Tyres and contaminated/mixed plastic will be turned away. An additional surcharge may apply where net wrap is more than 10% of the load by volume.

£270 +VAT per tonne for up to 1.5 tonnes (minimum charge £70 +VAT). Over 1.5 tonnes is charged at a reduced rate of £100 +VAT per tonne.

Which farm plastics do you collect?

Silage wrap, silage sheet, string, fertiliser & seed bags, triple-rinsed cans & drums (up to 200L), dry cardboard, buckets, tree cones, net wrap and empty plastic fuel tanks. Each material type should be placed in separate liners.

Compact your plastic into the liner – it is possible to get over 250 round bale wraps in a single liner. Once full, tie the liner with string and unwrap the bin from around it, ready for the next liner.

We charge per liner for collection, with a sliding scale of prices depending on how many you have. The more liners you have, the lower the price per liner.

All of your plastics are baled at our yard and then sent to UK-based plastic recyclers where the material is shredded, washed and melted down into polymer pellets ready for reuse.

Which tyres do you collect?

Car, agricultural and lorry tyres, rubber tracks, and tyres still mounted on rims – from a couple of tyres to thousands.

Yes – we provide waste oil collection by tanker for farms and agricultural businesses.

Yes. We have our own articulated HGV with both a walking floor and a curtainside trailer, and regularly move bulk compost and mulch across the region.

Yes – Solway Boards in 6mm, 9mm and 12mm thicknesses, 8ft x 4ft as standard, with other sizes available on request.

Are there any membership fees?

No. There is no sign-up or membership fee – we charge you only for what we collect, whether this is once a year or many times a year.
