The Solway Bin & Liner System

Segregate, Compact, Collect

Segregate Your Farm Waste

Farm Waste Solutions uses the Solway Bin & Liner System to help you segregate your different farm wastes, allowing easy recycling and a tidy farmyard.

01

Compact the Plastic

Used properly, compacting the plastic in the liner, it is possible to get over 250 round bale wraps in a single liner.

02

Tie, Unwrap & Collect

Once full, simply tie the liner with string and the bin can be unwrapped from around the liner, ready to be used for the next liner.

03

The More Liners You Have, the Lower the Price per Liner

We charge per liner for collection, with a sliding scale of prices depending on how many you have. We always have bins and liners in stock – contact us to order.

The Rules

Why Farm Plastic Has to Be Recycled

The Agricultural Waste Regulations 2006 brought farm waste under the same controls as other business waste. In practice that means:

What Happens to Your Plastic

From Your Yard to a New Product

Collected and Baled

We collect your filled liners and take them to our yard at Andover Down, where the plastic is sorted by type and baled.

01

Shredded, Washed and Melted

Bales go to UK-based plastic recyclers, where the material is shredded, washed and melted down into polymer pellets.

02

Made Into New Products

Those pellets become new products – including the Solway recycled plastic boards we sell, made from the very same farm plastics we collect.

03

Keep It Clean, Keep It Separate

The single biggest thing you can do to keep costs down is to keep each plastic type in its own liner and shake off as much soil, silage and water as you can. Contaminated or mixed loads cost more to process and may be refused by the recycler.

One Type per Liner

Wrap, sheet, string, bags, drums and cardboard each in their own liner.

Shake It Off

Shake out silage, soil and water before the plastic goes in – it weighs less and recycles better.

Over 250 round bale wraps fit in a single liner.

Farm Plastic Recycling FAQs

Questions Farmers Ask Us

Can I still burn farm plastic?

No. Since the Agricultural Waste Regulations 2006, burning or burying farm plastics is not permitted in England and Wales. It must be collected by an authorised carrier for recycling or disposal.

Shake off as much silage, soil and water as you can. It does not need to be washed, but the cleaner and drier it is, the less it weighs and the better it recycles.

We charge per liner, on a sliding scale – the more liners you have, the lower the price per liner. There are no membership or sign-up fees, so you only pay for what we collect. Call 01264 554477 for current prices.

We always have Solway bins and liners in stock. Contact us to order and we will arrange delivery or collection from our yard at Andover Down.

Please separate them into one type per liner before collection. Mixed or contaminated loads cost more to recycle and may be refused by the recycler.

As often as you need. Some farms have a single collection after silage season; others have several a year. The price per liner depends only on how many you have at the time.

It is baled at our yard and sent to UK-based plastic recyclers, where it is turned into polymer pellets and made into new products such as recycled plastic boards.

South West Hub Recycling Scheme

Annual Plastic Recycling Hub Events Across the Region

The Farm Plastic Recycling Scheme began in 2004 and has taken place annually ever since. Farm Waste Solutions now runs the scheme, using all previous sites at the same time of year. Tyres and contaminated/mixed plastic will be turned away.
